SBC 6-core Rockchip RK3399 (SoC) with 64-bit Armv8 architecture incl Mali-T860

ART.NO: Tinker Board 2 / 2S

Product information: Rockchip RK3399

Tinker Board 2 is an advanced ARM-based single board computer (SBC) from ASUS powered by the Rockchip RK3399 SoC, equipped with a six-core Armv8 64-bit processor with ARM big.LITTLE™ technology. This technology combines two different processors in the same SoC to maximise performance while keeping power consumption low. This makes Tinker Board 2 particularly suitable for IoT applications where energy efficiency is important.

Tinker Board 2 offers improved CPU performance, up to almost double that of the original Tinker Board model and faster than many competing SBCs
. The processor consists of dual 2.0 GHz Cortex-A72 cores and four 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 cores, enabling faster processing and better task management. ARM big.LITTLE technology automatically optimises the allocation of tasks to the appropriate CPU core, leading to an efficient use of system resources.

The GPU found in Tinker Board 2 is the Mali-T860, a multi-core graphics processor designed for complex graphics applications. It offers support for modern graphics frameworks such as OpenGL ES 3.1, OpenVG 1.1, and OpenCL, making it suitable for both next generation and legacy 2D/3D graphics applications. Compared to the original Tinker Board, the Mali-T860 accelerates graphics performance by up to 28%, providing a more responsive user experience for graphics-intensive tasks.

Tinker Board 2 also supports dual displays with up to 4K UHD resolution and has three popular display interfaces built-in: HDMI, DisplayPort over USB-C and DSI. This provides a highly flexible visual output solution, ideal for applications that require high resolution and large displays.

In terms of connectivity, Tinker Board 2 is equipped with next-generation 802.11ac Wi-Fi with 2×2 dual antennas for both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, providing up to ten times faster transmission speeds than previous Wi-Fi standards. Bluetooth 5.0 technology enables faster transmission speeds and greater range, providing more convenient and free wireless connectivity to a variety of devices, such as speakers, headphones and game controllers.

The device also offers rich connectivity through USB 3.2 Gen 1, with three Type-A ports and one Type-C port. These ports provide data transfer speeds up to ten times faster than USB 2.0, while offering up to 0.9A and 1.5A power supplies respectively, allowing for faster charging of connected devices.

For embedded solutions, Tinker Board 2 offers various expansion options, including an RTC battery connector for real-time clock functions, an SD card slot on the back, and a fan connector for easy cooling system upgrades. It is also designed with comprehensive protection features, including short-circuit protection, electrostatic discharge protection, and surge protection, ensuring a long lifespan for both Tinker Board 2 and connected devices.

For easy installation and maintenance, Tinker Board 2 includes a flexible setup tool that allows you to adjust system performance settings as needed. It also supports ASUS IoT Cloud Console (AICC), a unified platform for managing and analysing large amounts of data collected from IoT devices.

Tinker Board 2 is also compatible with Android 10, giving access to new and interesting features for AI and improved security, making it an excellent solution for IoT applications that require high performance and energy efficiency.
